Peace Arch Hospital, White Rock: healing
through generosity
The Peace Arch Hospital White Rock is one of the most established health
care facilities in the city of White Rock today. Categorised as a
general hospital, it serves the larger community of White Rock for its
in-patient and outpatient needs. The hospital is owned and operated by
Fraser Health, which is the biggest health care authority in British
Columbia.
The Peace Arch Hospital White Rock considers itself to be a product of
human generosity and community effort. The hospital started out with a
donation drive, and such donation drives keep the hospital going even
today.
A short history of the Peace Arch Hospital, White Rock
The year 1954 is the year that saw the establishment of the Peace Arch
Hospital White Rock. But this is not the year that the hospital itself
began. It began much earlier with the foundation of the Peace Arch
Hospital Auxiliary in 1948.
The Auxiliary is a group of like-minded members of the community that
worked to amass donations for the establishment of a general hospital to
serve the White Rock area. Their efforts led to the creation of the
hospital itself, and these efforts to date continue to keep the hospital
alive. Aside from donations, fundraising activities include annual golf
tournaments, walkathons and galas.
The land on which the Peace Arch Hospital White Rock stands was given to
the White Rock municipality by Amy Weatherby. The hospital site was
estimated to be five and a half acres big. Before, the hospital building
housed 45 beds. However, through generous donations that the hospital
received over the years, it was able to expand to 146 beds. The
continuous donations also enabled the hospital to acquire better medical
facilities as well as expand its range of services over time.

Services offered at the Peace Arch
Hospital White Rock
The Peace Arch Hospital White Rock is a general hospital fitted with
acute care facilities. The services offered by the hospital include
24/7 emergency services, emergency and elective surgery, obstetrics,
radiology, laboratory services, senior services and ambulatory care.
The hospital is constantly trying to improve the services it gives
its patients. Just recently, the hospital added new MRI facilities
costing CD$4.7 million. Of this amount, CD$2.3 million was donated
by the Peace Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation (PAHCHF)
whilst CD$1.0 million came courtesy of the Peace Arch Hospital
Auxiliary. The rest of the funding necessary to make MRI services
possible at the Peace Arch Hospital White Rock was given by Fraser
Health.
Right now, the hospital is seeking to expand its maternity ward
through its “Oh, Baby!” campaign. Through this campaign, the
hospital intends to triple the current capacity of its maternity
ward by building eight rooms. These rooms will have a homelike
atmosphere conducive to birthing but with state-of-the-art equipment
for each room. Both the PAHCHF and the Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary
are holding events to raise funds for this campaign.
The Peace Arch Hospital White Rock is a health care facility that
was built from ground up through the spirit of generosity and
goodwill. As long as that spirit lives, the hospital will continue
providing its services with a dedication to excellence.
